Tours
Classic: Old town
Discover the picturesque alleys of the upper and lower part of the old town and come face to face with the most prominent sights: the town hall, the armoury, the Schellenhaus (former prison), the towers, the church district and the still visible town fortification. Have a closer look and visit hidden courtyards behind the old town buildings. On request, you can climb the Spittelturm and enjoy the great view.
Heinrich Bullinger
Bremgarten is the birth-place of Heinrich Bullinger (1504 - 1575), a Swiss reformer and successor of Huldrych Zwingli as head of the Zurich church. This tour takes you to the house where he was born and to the town church. You will learn more about his early life and his special family background. We recommend combining this special tour with a classic town tour.
Hexenturm: Witch tower
The time-honored witch tower has recently been renovated and is now accessible for tour groups. We will show you the former prison with its thick walls, the trap-door and the wooden winding wheel. You will hear stories about the witch-hunt in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Church district
Bremgarten's church district, also fondly called «little Vatican», is truly impressive. The former monument preservationist Dr. Peter Felder marked it as the «most beautiful and richest churchyard» in the whole canton of Aargau. Chapels and other clerical buildings are grouped around the main church. This tour is dedicated to the cultural-historical treasures of these sacred sites.
